Comparison and Contrast of a Separate Peace and Catcher in...
Comparison and Contrast Essay A Separate Peace and The Catcher in the Rye The coming of age novels, The Catcher in the Rye, written by J.D. Salinger, and A Separate Peace, written by John Knowles, both interpret the lives of adolescent boys journeying through their conflicts and inner confusion to reach the level of maturity. Salinger and Knowles both discern the literal ways a typical teenager grows up with the help of literary elements such as plot, setting, character development, conflicts, irony, symobolism, theme, and point of view. In both of the novels, the setting is taken place in an all boys school. The all boys school in A Separate Peace was named Devon High School, located in New Hampshire and the school in The Catcherâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦The cause of this depression is the death of his younger brother Ally. In the novel, he describes that he literally broke all the windows in the garage and that he wasnt able to attend Allies funeral because he spent his time in the hospital healing his hands. Also, the switching of private schools and the way his parents are always neglecting him is another reason of his depression. An example of how they describe Holdens depression is found early in the novel. In chapter 1, Old Spencer says Life is a game boy. Life is a game that one plays according to the rules. Then Holden replies with, Yes sir. I know it is. I know itÃâ¦Game my a**. Some game. If you get on the side where all the hot-shots are, then its a game, all right- Ill admit that. But if you get on the other side, where there arent any hot-shots, then whats a game about it? Nothing. No Game (Salinger 8). This quote shows that Holden is a victim of depression and in his thoughts he compares himself as not being with the hot-shots, which means that he is alienated in society. However, in A Separate Peace, Gene doesnt have this conflict because he belongs to a club. This club that he is in is called the Super Suicide Society in the Summer Session where his major con flict started. Organizational Behavior for Conceptual Heuristic -myassignmenthelp
Question: Discuss about theOrganizational Behavior for Conceptual Heuristic Device. Answer: Introduction In todays life, it is very critical to understand human behavior that constantly changes in relation to time and region. Behavior is definable as an individual response that is observable either directly or indirectly (Charney 2016). Personal behaviors tend to be unpredictable, always follow a prescribed pattern, and may influence other persons in an organization. Organization is definable as a collection of individuals that work together for a common goal. Therefore, organizational behavior is the process of analyzing all the collection of human dynamics in every organization, to help the management in understanding the relationships between the employers, employees and the interaction among the employees (Anteby Anderson 2014, p.16).The process of learning the organization behaviors requires an in-depth understanding of individual deferences and then as group at large. This article, therefore, looks at the theories and approaches that can be used to address some potential human be haviors that might rise in an organization. Organization behavior entails methods and ways on how to train, develop and motivate all staffs to prosper the business to higher level. The manager achieves this through ensuring that there is job satisfaction, promotion of innovativeness and leadership development (Lopez Medina 2015, p. 590). Misguided organization behavior is an obstacle to the competitiveness of an organization in the market since the success of an organization results from the morale and attitude of an individual undertaking the task. The varied characters among people in an organization cause different types of organizational behaviors in every business entity even though there should be concerted actions for specific organizations. Different organizational theories explain the causes and ways on how to go about the behaviors in an organization (Lopez Medina 2015, p. 592) .These are; Scientific Leadership, a theory that focuses on how jobs should be efficiently done by determining the organization goals and outlining the performance standards from both the departmental managers and the staffs. The theory realizes that assigning expertise to specific jobs with a time frame in a set excellent standards results in quality product and services. Human Relationship Approach theory studies the effects of different plant illumination against the staff productivity (Lopez Medina 2015, p. 594). The argument concluded into a unified approach Hawthorne effect on both the formal and informal organizations that any positive human relation affects productivity in a positive way. Decision-Making Approach mainly focuses on the decisions that are in line with the objectives of the organization. Therefore, the theory dictates that all the decisions made are environmentally restricted and always meets the minimum criteria for success. Neo Human Relations School focuses on the structures of the modern organization. The theory gave birth to other theories such as the Maslows Hierarchy of Needs that explains the necessity of staffs motivation to meet their basic needs such as safety, psychological state, love, esteem and self-actualization (Lopez Medina 2015, p. 596). The school of thought also includes; Theory X and Theory Y. The Theory X ensures that managers control the staff's behaviors and reward them appropriately when the organization needs are achievable; on the other hand, Theory Y takes an assumption that workers are capable of undertaking their tasks and the management is only to facilitate the achievement of the organizational goal through achieving an individual work. Systems Approach takes into account the input, process within the systems and output (Colwell Callaghan 2013, p. 352). It views an organization as a single union whereby one department depends on the other from the production to the sales of the products and services. Therefore, it takes into a concern of every employee in the organization. Organizational behavior is determinable by three factors, namely, individual, groups and organizational structure. All these three determiners focus on the behavioral disciplines such as psychology, sociology, social psychology, anthropology and political science (Kavanagh 2014). Psychology is a science that seeks in measuring, explaining and changing the behaviors of human beings. Sociology is a science that studies the relationship between persons and other people, to improve the relations among different groups of an organization. Social psychology in the other hand is a science the blends together with sociology to see how a group of people influence an individual in an organization. Anthropology is the study of a particular society about the religion, customs, education, values, and culture while Political science is the study of the power influence an individual in an environment. Because of different types of employees there are varied types of problems and challenges that if not well addressed by the management in time will lead to decreased under- performance (DeNisi 2011). The individual problems can be as a result of environmental factors, personal, psychological factors, social factors and physical factors. These problems may cause failure in an entire organization. The common problems with organizational behavior are like stubbornness or resistance to change of technological change or change of internal process. The manager can avoid such an incident through proper communication and training of the staffs. Another likely issue might be lack of motivation on the organizational growth, which will eventually affect the behavior of the teams by either not seeking out for the opportunities presented by the organization. Therefore in totality, it is upon the management to learn the cause of the problems and apply the appropriate method to solve it (Kavanagh 2014). For example, an organizational manager can understand the behavior of an employee through closely associating and observing him or her. The learned information will tell the either if the employee will be productive or will be a problem creator to the organization. Therefore it is very vital for a manager to have even a bit of psychological knowledge the manager can use different types of psychologist approaches to study the mind and behavior of an employee (Coldwell Callaghan 2013, p. 356). For example, the Big Five dimensions of personality that are emotional stability, extraversion, openness, agreeableness, conscientiousness. The other tool is DISC an acronym of Dominance, to mean the way one will respond to challenges. Influencing means the capability of changing the personal view of another person. Steadiness means how one can react t o the pace of an environment and Compliance to say how one is responding to the set rules and regulations. Group issues might result from the differences created by the individual conflict that may lead to two or more groups of workers that do not go along (Coldwell Callaghan 2013, p. 360). Such discords are always unhealthy for an organization and therefore to be successful, the groups in an organization must dedicate their efforts towards the goal by trying to eliminate any individual difference among them. The problems always arise from poor communication styles and failures by the management to diagnose problems in time to foster cohesiveness. Organizational issues always arise when the individual problems propagate to the group problems then advance to the organization level as a result of failure by the management to take the corrective actions in time. Other organizational issues may be like high staff turnover a situation whereby the workers are not satisfied with the work and internationalization leading to employment of international employees with little knowledge of national culture. Managers are responsible for formulating and addressing all the issues that form the behaviors in an organization by taking proper action on the negatives ones and promoting the positive things (Anteby Anderson 2014, p. 20). The management should always be able to do a preliminary assessment of any complaint raised by any staff or when the manager learns of inappropriate behavior in a work place. The initial evaluation determines what the complaint is about, and to determine how to proceed with the matter (Kavanagh 2014, p. 3). The manager then proceeds to determine whether it is necessary to investigate the complaint. At some point the manager may call for counseling of an employee who has a personal conflict for example family issues or even those that struggle with alcoholism. In the investigation stage, the manager uncovers all the information required in solving the problem. At this stage, the employee is always informed of the allegations and given an opportunity to respond. I n most cases of group conflicts, the manager may opt to create good understanding between the parties by calling for both of them to dialogue and apologize to one another if the incident is minor. At while when the incident is serious, disciplinary action to be taken by the Work Laws and Agreements. Conclusion For the success of an organization, it does not depend on the organizational development, or economic understanding but rather a better understanding of each employees behavior in relation to other employees, employer, and customer. The management should understand the entire subordinate so as have a harmonious working place that will see to the fulfillment of the objectives since the success of an enterprise is ultimately depending on the employees attitude, morale and commitment. Reilyism Speech Essays - Religion And Abortion, Abortion, LIFE
Reilyism Speech Matchmaker.com: Sign up now for a free trial. Date Smarter! Reilyism Speech The founding of entire nation was forged on the principle that all men are created equal under the law. This is the essence of our Declaration of Independance and the philosophy behind the Constition. We, through history, have made certain that ALL people in this country have equality before the law. We have set uup the premise that all people are equal before the law. Lady Justice is blind to Race, Religion, _________ . We have declared that there is no such thing as sub-humans-and that NO human being's rights are superior to another human being. If we want to live by the premises that we set up in this country, then we cannot overlook ANY human being-NO ONE can be excluded. There are, however, a human beings that is ignored the protection to thier rights to life everyday. The aborted children. I dare the negative to PROVE that a child in her mother's wound is alive! Does the negative actually believe that a human being is alive when and only when a human being has fully developed? If this is true, then most of here are not alive. The human specie is only fully grown at adulthood, many of us here are not adults yet-and by that definition, it wouldn't matter if your shot and killed on the street because"your not fully developed". We are a stage in development-teenager-just like a child is, just like a toddler is, just like an old man is, and just like a aborted child is. There is no magical transformation that occurs when a child is born. He has the same basic needs to survive before he is born, and the same needs after he is born. The negative is going to attempt to make you believe that the differnce in quality of a unborn child is so great that these children do not resemble what we call alive. They want you to believe that a unborn child cannot feel pain. Can an unborn child feel pain? If it can, then does that not resemble life? If they do successfully make you accept this premise, then it becomes easy to abort a child. If you accept that an unborn child is not a eating, breathing, moving, human inside of a woman then thier life can have no value. But the answer is yes, a unborn child does feel pain. Now, I know it is hard for many of us to accept that we have been doing things wrong on such a basic level in this country, I know it's hard for many people to look back on beliefs that they have thought many times, but we must realize that unborn childeren ARE alive! Our country went through and the world went through a long persiod of time where Whites believed that Blacks were actually sub-human! If someone accepted that a Black person was a sub- human, then it became easy to continue slavery, and it became easy to abuse or ignore thier rights to life. We have disproved this premise in modern time, not ignoring the facts. In Hitler's Holocost, German soliders forced themselves to truly believe that the Jews were lower beings. We cannot ignore the facts, we cannot imitate these Nazi's and operate on the premise that there are lower human beings. We cannot hide it! Killing a living human being is murder-and murder is against the the law. I dare the negative to say that a Unborn Child is not a human being! I dare the negative to say that a unborn child is not alive! and I dare the negative to say that he would not mind being an aborted child! Last night, while writing this speech, I was shocked to hear for the first time, my mother tell me that before I was born, she had two abortions. It made me realize how close I am, how close I became to never have existing. It made me see that I could have had two little brothers or sisters that I would have loved. I dare all of you to really ask yourselves-would want to have been a aborted child. Would you would have wanted you life to be cut, before you could even be born into this world? When I was inside my mother, No one could ask me if I valued my life. I wouldn't have a right to live. If you were aborted you would NOT have a chance to ask for your life. If abortion

Exploring The Practice Of Supervision Social Work Essay Essay Example
Exploring The Practice Of Supervision Social Work Essay Essay Example Exploring The Practice Of Supervision Social Work Essay Essay Exploring The Practice Of Supervision Social Work Essay Essay Supervision is the pattern where a counselor can speak to a professional who is trained to place any psychological or behavioral alterations in the counselor that could be due to an inability to get by with issues presented by clients. A supervisor is besides responsible for disputing patterns and processs, developing improved or different techniques, and informing clients of alternate theories and/or new patterns, every bit good as industry alterations. The supportive and educative procedure of supervising is aimed toward helping supervisees in the application of reding theory and techniques to client jobs ( Bernard A ; Goodyear, 2009 ) . Supervision is a normally a regular, formal agreement for counselors to discourse their work with person who is experienced in reding and supervising. The undertaking is to work together to guarantee and develop the efficiency of the counsellor/client relationship, maintain equal criterions of guidance and a method of consultancy to widen the skylines of an experient practician ( ACA, 2009 ) . Aim of Supervision By and large, supervising has two primary ends: to supervise client attention and guarantee clients are having appropriate curative guidance, and to heighten professional operation ( Bernard A ; Goodyear, 2009 ) . Supervision provides benefits for counselors such as support, an chance to detect new thoughts and schemes, every bit good as personal and professional development. Another benefit in add-on to counsellor support and development is larning across the professional lifetime of counselors life long acquisition ( Borders A ; Usher, 1992 ) . The purpose of supervising is to supply a agency of support, and ongoing acquisition and professional development for counselors who often work with hard and nerve-racking instances. This serves to forestall extra emphasis and burnout ( Haynes, Corey, A ; Moulton, 2003 ) . The educational and encouraging function of the supervisor focuses on making a secure puting where the supervisee can reflect on their work, acquire feedback, way, reevaluate their capablenesss and addition greater understanding about their work, clients and themselves with the purpose of protecting the client and offering best possible guidance patterns ( Powell, 1993 ) . In order to advance counselor development supervising needs to take topographic point in a safe and appropriate environment. To accomplish this, as in a guidance session, empathy, openness, and positive respect are indispensable ( Egan, 2007 ) . Both parties must besides swear in the unity and honestness of the other. An ethical model is necessary to advance this trust, and there should be an grasp of the importance of the supervising procedure, which reduces the force per unit area on the counselor to bring forth an result at the cost of the procedure and the working relationship. The ethical principals of reding are intended as a usher and model for the duties of counselors: demoing consideration for the trust of participants, esteeming their independency, perpetrating to the publicity of the wellbeing of all participants and at a red lead, to make no injury, to esteem each person and dainty everyone rightly and without prejudice, and seeking professional development ( Egan, 2007 ) . The duty to work ethically will better proviso and the response of services, and let chances for development for both parties to take topographic point. The supervisor has a duty to guarantee that confidentiality is maintained, and any information obtained in a clinical or confer withing relationship is discussed merely for professional intents and merely with individuals clearly concerned with the instance ( ACA, 2009 ) . Different ways of measuring the supervisory procedure can be of import both for the supervisor and the supervisee. Establishing a contract for the supervisory relationship makes rating easier. The contract should include the pupil s developmental demands, the supervisor s competences, and supervisory ends and methods ( Stoltenberg A ; Delworth, 1987 ) . Land regulations set up at the start are of import to clear up the outlooks of the supervisor every bit good as the supervisee, and that the duty for success of the procedure rests with both parties. As portion of the contract it is of import to discourse what can and ca nt remain confidential. Throughout the supervising procedure, the supervisor is responsible for measuring the quality of the supervisory relationship ( Powell, 1993 ) . Occasionally things happen between a supervisor and supervisee that has nil to make with the persons themselves, but with what and who the individual reminds them of. Feelingss can be transferred from other associations onto the supervisor. Besides the feelings a supervisor may see towards a supervisee can be linked to experiences and associations in the yesteryear. In order to guarantee the safety of both parties the practicians must subscribe to a set codification of pattern and moralss ( Powell, 1993 ) . Personal Experience My personal experience of supervising has for the most portion been really general, discoursing casework and looking for feedback, thoughts and schemes, and wide-ranging treatments refering my personal experiences. My practicum has involved disbursement three hours a hebdomad at a local work forces s inn, with some clip set aside for treatment, java, and exchange of thoughts. This clip has been most helpful in covering with feelings of defeat that arise, that can be really disputing for me and could show troubles if non addressed. The aid can come in the signifier of a reminder that it is non truly about me, that alteration can non be forced from the outside, or merely a remark that things move easy, and a positive result may take old ages. Unfortunately, there are few alone instances at the inn, even if these instances are disputing and complex. Many of the persons in abode nowadays with double diagnosing, and are good known to staff. There are no speedy holes or easy solutions, and staff can non indulge in annoyance or defeat over deficiency of declarations. Sometimes, there will be no declaration or positive result. One occupant was experiencing really positive and looking frontward to work one hebdomad, but was unable to return in subsequent hebdomads due to drug and intoxicant usage. I still that he will be able to return at a ulterior day of the month. It is besides really straitening to see such immature people with lasting damage from drug and intoxicant usage, and gain that no sum of reding or medical intervention will be able to supply them with a standard type of being. Supervision can be used as a topographic point to debrief, to portion experiences, and insight options. It can be really reassuring to hold person to fall back on, and derive support from, in disputing or complex state of affairss. I find it really utile to be able to speak things through, and so come to an single apprehension and credence of any given state of affairs. Seeking a 2nd sentiment, background information on a occupant and discussing attacks seems to do up most of supervising clip, and some other maps of supervising have besides happened more informally, over a cup of java in the staff room, peculiarly in relation to future employment. Unsurprisingly, as graduation draws nearer, it is besides the calling development facet of supervising that has taken up a great trade of my ideas where to travel next, what kind of work would I best be suited to, what type of educational chances do I see coming up. This has for me been really valuable, as I can seek advice and tips from people in the field, and acquire a echt grasp for what it means to work in this field. Overall, I think it is by and large expected, and helpful, for those who receive supervising to make some readying before get downing supervising, and to construct up an consciousness of what the supervising is to accomplish. Not to see it an duty but as an chance to develop as a more effectual counselor Reviewing and reflecting on casework is a good manner to believe through what has happened in the past hebdomad, and where it will take us. Preparation can besides assist with bringing concerns and inquiries to inquire supervisor, with seeking verification and elucidation, and get down the idea processes about what I need from the supervisor. Evaluation Cardinal to developmental theoretical accounts of supervising is the theory that as people and counselors we are continuously turning and maturating ; like all people we develop over clip, and this development and is a procedure with phases or stages that are predictable. In general, developmental theoretical accounts of supervising define progressive phases of supervisee development from novitiate to expert, each phase dwelling of distinct features and accomplishments ( Bradley A ; Ladany, 2000 ) . Stoltenberg and Delworth ( 1987 ) depict a developmental theoretical account with three degrees: beginning, intermediate, and advanced. In each degree a counselor may get down in an imitative manner and travel toward a more competent, self-confident and autonomous province for each degree. Get downing supervisees would happen themselves comparatively dependent on the supervisor to understand or explicate client behaviors and mentalities and set up programs for intercession. Intermediate supervisees would depend on supervisors for an apprehension of more complex clients, but would be irritated at suggestions about more simple instances. Resistance is characteristic of this phase, because the supervisee s sense of ego cab feel easy threatened. Advanced supervisees map independently, seek audience when appropriate, and experience responsible for their ain picks. For illustration, at my current novice phase, I am expected to hold limited accomplishments and deficiency assurance as a counselor, as I am merely get downing out as a trainee. With more clip on the occupation, I should develop more accomplishments and assurance, and possibly at odds feelings about perceived independence/dependence on my supervisor. In a ulterior developmental phase, I would be expected to demo high degree communicating abilities, good problem-solving accomplishments and be brooding about the guidance and supervisory procedure ( Haynes, Corey, A ; Moulton, 2003 ) . An consciousness of these development phases can be really cheering, as I am non expected to be perfect on the first twenty-four hours on the occupation, or cognize everything about the field instantly. Rather, the outlook is that I have a capacity to larn, turn and better, and each twenty-four hours be a small spot better. Supervision and professional development is of import as it assists in the care and betterment of my criterion of pattern. It can integrate ego directed and assisted acquisition, on the occupation preparation and coaching, include instruction through instance treatments and presentations, and larning from our successes and errors ( Powell, 1993 ) . It is really encouraging to cognize that supervising can be something in add-on to merely doing things clearer or supplying a fresh attack to casework. Something more than focal point and penetration from a 3rd party, or a mark that I am on the right path, or the chance to vent my defeats refering clients. In guidance, it has been put frontward that supervising be entrenched into a broader treatment of womb-to-tomb acquisition, where supervising is viewed as one of a scope of support and acquisition tools that counselors may be encouraged to entree ( McMahon and Patton, 20002 ) . A Lifelong acquisition is being seen as indispensable for everyone, and, merely as supervising in focused on forestalling burn out and advancing personal development, womb-to-tomb acquisition is besides chiefly focused on prolonging length of service and endurance within working life ( Holmes, 2002 ) . Learning is the procedure of persons building and transforming experience into cognition, accomplishments, attitudes, values, beliefs, emotions ( Holmes, 2002 ) , all of which are besides sought after results of supervising, and of practical usage in guidance. A Supervision encourages counselors to reflect on their cognition, accomplishments, values and beliefs in order to convey to supervision an history of their experience, and through supervising transform it in such a manner that it is important and significant, and able to be transferred into their work and personal acquisition ( McMahon and Patton, 20002 ) . Helping and advancing the supervisee s acquisition and professional development is chiefly a affair of supplying appropriate instruction and acquisition environments ( Stoltenberg A ; Delworth, 1987 ) and may affect the supervisor in supplying pupils with chances to reflect on their values and to analyze the influence of such values in the counselor s work with clients. The purpose is to take full advantage of and recognize growing needed for the hereafter, continuously placing new countries of growing in a life-long acquisition procedure ( McMahon and Patton, 20002 ) . Decision Administrative supervising is something I am really familiar with after working in the public service for a twelve old ages. More frequently as peer supervising due to handiness of forces and cost, but besides group and one-on-one supervising applied to different sorts of undertakings. It was an activity that I found really helpful for my work, as it allowed me to be more efficient, effectual, supply a more professional end product, and to advance information sharing refering best pattern, betterments and inventions. This sort of supervising was purely impersonal, and all about work. Unfortunately, there was small attending paid to the workers, and their well being, growing and development. Reding supervising, on the other manus, has an excess dimension that is non considered when covering with strictly administrative affairs. It takes a more holistic position of assisting others, and acknowledges that we can non assist others unless we besides help ourselves. Reding supervising acknowledges that the counselor is a portion of the duologue, and can non be removed from the equation, and so takes stairss to restrict injury for all parties, to guarantee that biass or prepossessions of the counselor do non impact on any curative relationship. Reding supervising takes it that excess measure to look at back uping the counselor in their work, and in their development. Egan focuses really good on this when he looks at a certain degree of self-knowledge, self-awareness and adulthood as an indispensable demand to being an effectual counselor ( Egan, 2007 ) . Supervision provides a infinite where counselors can admit and dispute any unsighted musca volitanss, overcome prejudices and go better counselors. An appropriate supervisory relationship can assist broaden curative accomplishments. It can be used to develop intercessions and supply penetrations for appraisals. Supervision can be used to concentrate on relational issues in order to cultivate patient/client resources, and to construct up and back up a counselor s ain curative influence. Supervision should enable counselors to get new professional and personal penetrations through their ain experiences.

Deadlock Characteristics and Solutions Research Paper
Deadlock Characteristics and Solutions - Research Paper Example When a process cannot change its situation indefinitely due to another waiting process using the same resource, then this leads to a system being in deadlock (Kaveh and Wolfgang). Under normal circumstances, resource allocations in a system undertake the following steps. A process requests a resource and the process is suspended until the resource is available. The process then uses the resource once it has been allocated. Finally, the process releases the resource. A system might have two processes running process-A and process-B namely. The situation above illustrates that Process-A and Process-B are in a deadlock state. Deadlocks have the following assumptions. The process cannot be allocated a resource before it requests for it. Therefore, the order it follows is request then use it and release the resource. A process can also only request more resources than the number of resources available for use by the system. Multiprogramming systems have a resource table than manages resources by showing free and occupied resources being used by processes. It also keeps queues of the processes that are waiting for certain resources. The queues will indicate the time a resource will be released by a process thus making it available for use by other resources. Mutual exclusion occurs when one or at least one of the resource is not sharable. It means that only a few numbers of processes can use the resource at a time. A requesting process has to wait for a resource to be released if it requests the process when it is being used by another process.
